Lordstown and Monroe, two small towns in Ohio, have recently authorized the building of casinos in their territory. Voters of both communities strongly support the agreements their respective local governments have made with the Eastern Shawnee Indian tribe. In Lordstown, according to the Trumbull County Board of Elections, 69 percent, around 995 votes, in favor, and 31 percent against, around 450 votes. According to the Butler County Board of Elections, in Monroe, 66 percent of votes, that is around 2.030 votes, in favor, and 34 percent, around 1.030, against.
Lordstown is a village of 3.700 inhabitants in northeast Ohio, and Monroe is a little town of 9.500 inhabitants in the southwest part of the state. In both towns, authorities asked residents to vote and thus authorize or desauthorize the agreement the government had made with the Eastern Shawnee tribe, independently if later on the tribe were allowed to build casinos in the area.
