Pompano and Gulfstream Park are closer to be allowed to offers Las-Vegas style slot machines. Senate and House leaders seem to be very close to reach an agreement regarding this matter. Florida Gov. Jeb Bush has called a special session of the Legislature to discuss the slots issue after Broward County approved the plan with 99 percent of voters having participated in the ballot. The amendment voted by Broward County residents requires that all slot taxes must serve to fund public education nationwide.
Slot machines would operate sixteen hours a day and all seem to agree on this. However, regarding the taxation rates they have not yet reached an agreement. Last March, the Senate suggested a tax sliding from 35 to 55 percent with profits superior to 500 million dollars. The House insists on 55 percent in return for signing off on the most profitable slots.
